Following up on the report, “Learning life all over again: Reentry after long-term imprisonment,” The Sentencing Project offers a webinar, “Learning Life All Over Again.”

A growing number of people are returning home after long-term confinement because of our nation’s harsh sentencing laws. Navigating life after long-term imprisonment involves significant hurdles, including securing housing and employment, managing Post-Incarceration Syndrome (PICS) (trauma, anxiety, distrust), and adapting to technological advancements like smartphones. Key challenges include severe social disconnection, financial instability, re-entry anxiety, and the high risk of recidivism or health crises within the first few weeks of release.

What’s it like to navigate life after decades in prison? The webinar offers the opportunity for continued discussion on the information in the report, and what organizations continue to learn about reentry after long-term imprisonment. The webinar will explore factors that support reintegration and changes needed to create meaningful second chances.
