TODAY – Virtual Workshop for Sacramento Advocates

Today at 530pm PT, Decarcerate Sacramento and the Anti-Death Penalty Coalition are hosting a virtual workshop for Sacramento advocates ahead of a crucial Sacramento County Board of Supervisors hearing on Wednesday, June 10th.

Sacramento has become the leading death penalty county in Northern California, outpacing neighboring counties. What most other prosecutors in California and around the country understand is that the death penalty is a failed, discriminatory policy and that seeking the death penalty harms the community by wasting resources that could be better used for pressing community needs. Ahead of Sacramento County’s FY 2026–27 budget hearing, the community needs members ready to speak out for investments in care, not incarceration nor carceral spending.

Join Decarcerate Sacramento and the Anti-Death Penalty Coalition for a virtual workshop where they’ll break down the budget, discuss what’s at stake, and help prepare advocates to give effective public comment.

When: TODAY, Sunday June 7th at 530pm

The webinar will cover:

• The County’s continued investment in incarceration and jail expansion plans
• How the death penalty impacts county budgets and communities

We hope to virtually see you there; together, let’s fight for a budget that prioritizes housing, healthcare, behavioral health services, and community well-being over cages.

Decarcerate Sacramento was was founded in 2019 by a group of Sacramento County residents who have been impacted personally by incarceration, and are also survivors of violence who know that punishment does not prevent harm in our communities.

Anti-Death Penalty Coalition is part of the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, working to strengthen the international dimension of the fight against the death penalty. Its objective is to obtain the universal abolition of the death penalty.
