Community members recently formed the Sacramento Anti-Death Penalty Coalition, to be a voice against the death penalty in Sacramento County. Sacramento has become the leading death penalty county in Northern California, outpacing neighboring counties. What most other prosecutors in California and around the country understand is that the death penalty is a failed, discriminatory policy and that seeking the death penalty harms the community by wasting resources that could be better used for pressing community needs.
The Sacramento Anti-Death Penalty Coalition invites you and your organization to join their open sign-on letter to Sacramento District Attorney Thien Ho urging him to stop pursuing the death penalty. They are are inviting organizations, current and former elected and appointed officials, and individuals to join the sign-on letter. The Coalition will make this letter available to DA Ho, the media, and other elected officials.
The Coalition is also organizing people to attend the Board of Supervisors’ hearing on the budget to give public comment urging the Board to reduce the District Attorney’s office budget, in light of the office’s wasteful and harmful pursuit of the death penalty.
Hearing details:
- Date: Wednesday June 10, 9:30-5:00p
- Where: Sacramento County Administration Center, 700 H Street, Board Chambers (Room 1450), Sacramento, CA 95814
Please complete this form if you can attend the hearing – for the whole day, or if you are available for the morning or afternoon. The Coalition will provide talking points and additional information about the schedule when it becomes available.
