Felony Murder Elimination project is excited to invite you to an upcoming virtual training hosted by FMEP and the Drop LWOP Coalition: Felony Murder Rule 101.

This beginner-friendly session will walk through the basics of felony murder in California and the reforms that have created new opportunities for resentencing. Felony murder has sent thousands of people to prison for life, often without regard to their individual actions. Understanding how these laws work is a critical step toward change.

The webinar will cover:

• what felony murder means, and what it does not
• the California penal codes that govern felony murder
• how to find out if a felony murder special circumstance applies
• recent reforms that have created new pathways to resentencing
• commonly used terminology, explained clearly

There will also be time for a question and answer session.

This session is intended for family members and loved ones of incarcerated people, as well as advocates, organizers, and anyone looking to better understand California’s felony murder laws.

Following this training, the Drop LWOP Coalition will host a community townhall on felony murder reform in California; a space to dig deeper into what is working, what is not, and how we can organize together to expand resentencing opportunities for people serving LWOP.

Please feel free to share this with others who may be interested.
