Save the Date – Lifer School

Graphic: UnCommon Law offers the 20th anniversary of Life School, in partnership with UCLA Prison Law & Policy Program and UCLA Criminal Law & Policy Consortium. Saturday March 14th 2026 from 930a-430 PT, at the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. Attorneys can earn up to 4.25 MCLE Credits.

To our supporters and advocates, we want to share an upcoming event; Save the Date – Lifer School on Saturday, March 14, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM PT, at the University of Los Angeles campus in Los Angeles.

From our longtime partners at UnCommon Law, Lifer School is returning to LA for a full-day, in-person program focused on California’s parole process, combining legal education, trauma-informed practices, and leadership from people with lived experience that may be especially valuable for families, advocates, and anyone supporting someone preparing for parole.

Lifer School is a free, interactive educational event designed for family members, loved ones, advocates, legal professionals, and community members who want to better understand how parole works and how to meaningfully support people preparing for a hearing. Attorneys can earn 4.25 MCLE credits.

Throughout the day, participants will:

  • Learn how parole decisions are made in California
  • Walk through a live mock parole hearing
  • Participate in hands-on workshops grounded in both legal strategy and trauma-informed support

This year’s program will also take on some of the most pressing barriers people face today, including restitution and EDD-related issues, Medication-Assisted Treatment records, and sentence structure and credit eligibility. Workshops are tailored for loved ones, advocates, attorneys, and people navigating parole without legal counsel.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the parole process, practical tools to share with people inside, and access to a strong set of resources and advocacy pathways.

Because space is limited, advance registration is required.

UnCommonLaw supports people navigating California’s discretionary parole process through trauma-informed legal representation, mental health counseling, legislative and policy advocacy, and in-prison programming led by those who have been through the process themselves.
