Felony Murder Elimination Project wishes to pass along an invitation shared with us by partners at the Faith Leaders of Color Coalition (FLOCC) to a national virtual prayer call tonight in support of Charles “Sonny” Burton.
Burton is currently facing execution in Alabama for his role as an accomplice in a 1991 murder resulting from 1991 robbery at an auto parts store. No one disputes that another man, Derrick DeBruce, shot and killed Battle. Burton, one of six men involved in the robbery, was outside the store at the time of the shooting, according to testimony.
Faith leaders, advocates, family members, and community members will gather in prayer for Sonny, his loved ones, the victim’s family, and all those working toward justice in this moment. We are sharing this invitation in case members of our community would like to join in solidarity.
